Revolutionizing Regensburg's Public Transit with Contactless Payments and Sustainability Initiatives

Regensburg and cEMV payments

Regensburg, Germany - In an exciting collaboration, Stadtwerk.Mobilität, the city's public transit agency, has joined forces with industry leaders Mastercard, Mikroelektronika, Finaro, and Switchio to elevate the convenience and efficiency of Regensburg's public transit network to new heights!

How to simplify ticketing

Imagine hopping on a bus and simply tapping your bank card or favorite NFC-based wallet like Google Pay, Apple Pay, Fitbit Pay, or Garmin Pay to buy your ticket. Well, this vision is now a reality for passengers on five of the city's bus lines, thanks to the introduction of cutting-edge validators featuring Switchio's innovative cEMV payment software.

The Future of Transit Payments

The first phase of this game-changing project is already underway and set to last a year. During this period, Stadtwerk.Mobilität will gather crucial data to fine-tune and expand the system to more lines, ensuring an even smoother and more accessible public transit experience for all. Plus, with these new digital ticketing terminals offering the same price as traditional ticket offices, passengers making contactless payments will enjoy an extra perk – a 50-cent discount compared to purchasing from the driver. It's a win-win!

Paving the Way for Sustainability

But Stadtwerk.Mobilität isn't just focused on enhancing the commute experience; they're committed to sustainability as well. In a bid to reduce the environmental impact, the agency has purchased ten fully electric buses. The ultimate goal? Achieving complete climate neutrality by 2035. That's a remarkable step towards a greener and cleaner future for Regensburg's transportation.

"The entire Switchio Mobility team was involved in the project. I want to specifically thank Hana Dlabajová, Eduard Nesiba, and Karel Schuch for their efforts in pushing boundaries and changing public transport for the better. The future of public transit in Regensburg has never looked brighter, with contactless payments and sustainability initiatives paving the way for a more convenient, eco-friendly, and enjoyable commute for everyone. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project continues to unfold!”
