Tech Deep-Dive: Why We Built an Open SoftPOS Platform

A Conversation with Martin Ptáček on White-Label SoftPOS, Acquirer Independence, and Payment Orchestration

For PSPs and ISOs, SoftPOS offers rapid merchant onboarding and a cost-effective way to expand payment acceptance. However, many solutions on the market bundle proprietary gateways or acquiring services, limiting flexibility and creating vendor lock-in.

We spoke with Martin Ptáček, Product Owner at Switchio by MONET+, about why we built an open, white-label SoftPOS platform that gives partners complete freedom over acquiring, transaction routing, and payment orchestration.

What does an “Open SoftPOS Platform” actually mean for a PSP or ISO?

Martin: Most SoftPOS providers require PSPs to route transactions through their own gateway or preferred acquiring partner. We wanted to take a different approach. Switchio is completely acquirer-independent. Partners can connect their existing acquiring relationships, define their own routing rules, and retain full control over their payment business. At the same time, the application is fully white-labeled and published under the partner’s own Google Play account, creating a seamless merchant experience.

How do more than 40 pre-integrated acquirers help partners onboard merchants faster?

Martin: We have built integrations with more than 40 acquiring partners. If a prospective customer already works with one of these acquirers, there’s no need for a new host integration or lengthy certification process. That significantly reduces implementation effort and helps our partners onboard merchants much faster.

What business cases are the ideal fit for Switchio SoftPOS?

Martin: SoftPOS is ideal for PSPs and ISOs serving merchants who need flexibility and mobility. Delivery services, field technicians, market vendors, seasonal businesses, and small merchants can start accepting card payments simply by downloading a secure application to their existing Android phone. It is one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to extend payment acceptance without deploying additional hardware.

Consumer phones aren’t dedicated payment devices. How do you guarantee security?

Martin: Security has always been at the heart of MONET+. We have more than 30 years of experience delivering cryptographic solutions for major banks and financial institutions. Our SoftPOS solution is fully PCI MPoC certified and complies with EMVCo requirements, combining advanced software protection, secure PIN-on-glass technology, and industry-standard encryption to ensure every transaction is protected.

How does SoftPOS fit alongside a partner’s existing payment terminal fleet?

Martin: SoftPOS is a helping hand, not a replacement. Dedicated payment terminals remain the preferred choice for fixed, high-volume checkout environments. SoftPOS extends payment acceptance to mobile staff, temporary sales locations, delivery services, and peak trading periods. The real advantage is that both physical payment terminals and SoftPOS devices are managed through the same Switchio platform and Terminal Management System, giving partners a single solution for deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
